Over 20 students from Prampram D/A Basic ‘B’ and Methodist Freeman Basic School in the Greater Accra Region were hospitalized today, Monday, April 14, after collapsing during class hours. Witnesses reported that several children were seen running in distress before collapsing. The affected pupils have been admitted to the Prampram Polyclinic, where medical personnel are monitoring their condition.
Preliminary reports suggest that the children had consumed asana, a local corn drink, sold by a vendor in the area. The vendor has also been hospitalized. The Ningo-Prampram District Health Directorate has initiated an investigation in collaboration with parents and school authorities to determine the cause of the incident and to ensure the safety of other pupils.
