The University of Cape Coast’s Optometry Students’ Association is all set to hold their annual end-of-year dinner, dubbed The EyeConic Ball, this Thursday.
The event marks not only the successful completion of another academic year, but also the transition of the Department of Optometry into the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, a joyful promotion that occurred early this year.
In addition, this prestigious event marks the official celebration of the completion of the academic year for the final year students, OD ‘25. In Ghana, aspiring optometrists go through six years in the university to become Doctors of Optometry. After twelve semesters of hard studying, financial sacrifice, clinical training and community work, the entire student body is poised to celebrate this new batch of graduands.
The event promises to be an electrifying celebration, with food, music and awards to outstanding students and faculty members.
Optometry is an emerging profession in Ghana and Africa, and has already proven immensely essential in combating the vast amounts of eye disease and refractive error that are prevalent in this part of the world. Each year, new optometrists are trained to do their part to promote ocular healthcare in the country.
