NMC successfully inducts public health nurses, nurse assistants, nurses and midwives.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of Ghana recently organized a series of induction ceremonies for newly qualified public health nurses, nurse assistants, nurses, and midwives for Nov. 2022, Sept. 2023 and April 2024. The ceremonies, which took place in four zoned locations across the country, aimed to officially welcome the new professionals into the nursing and midwifery community.
To ensure a smooth and well-coordinated event, the council divided the country into four zones: the Northern zone, the Middle zone, the Southern zone A, and the Southern zone B. Each zone had a designated location for the ceremony, namely Tamale, Sunyani, Cape Coast, and Accra.
In preparation for the events, the council released an official communication to inform all stakeholders about the upcoming ceremonies. To estimate the number of inductees attending each zone, the council provided a registration link for all qualified professionals to register and indicate their preferred location.
A deadline was set for registration to allow for adequate preparation at each venue. The first ceremony took place on November 18, 2024, at the Tamale Jubilee Park in the Northern zone. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Registrar for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Ghana, Mrs. Philomena A. N. Wolley.
Other dignitries who attended included heads of nursing and midwifery training institutions, regional Nursing and Midwifery Council representatives, and many more. The inductees who were present had the opportunity to be honored for their outstanding performance during the licensing examination.
The ceremony followed a formal program, with speeches from invited guests delivered at their designated times. The event concluded on a high note, with inductees taking photographs with the invited guests, the registrar, and their peers.
The second ceremony took place on November 20, 2024, at the Sunyani NMTC in the Middle zone. The event followed a similar routine to the first ceremony, with a massive turnout and high energy levels from the inductees. Attendees included professionals from the Volta region, Ashanti Region, Bono, and Ahafo regions.
On November 22, 2024, the council organized the third ceremony in the Southern zone B at the New Examination Centre (NEC) of the University of Cape Coast. The attendance was unprecedented, with inductees from the Central Region and surrounding areas, including the Western and Western-North Regions, Ashanti Region, and more.
As with the previous ceremonies, the inductees were administered the Oath of the profession. The ceremony in the Central Region followed the same format as the previous events, with advice and encouragement from invited guests and keynote speakers.
The final ceremony took place on November 26, 2024, at the University of Ghana, Sports Stadium in Accra, marking the Southern zone A. As the last of the four ceremonies, it attracted a large crowd, including those who were unable to attend the previous events.
All four ceremonies were successful, with attendees praising the organization and coordination. The events provided a platform for the new professionals to network, receive guidance, and be formally inducted into the nursing and midwifery community.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana deserves commendation for organizing these memorable events. The council’s efforts to ensure a smooth transition for the new professionals into the workforce are truly appreciated.
To all the inductees, congratulations on this significant milestone! May you continue to uphold the values of the nursing and midwifery profession, providing compassionate and quality care to your patients.
As you embark on this new journey, remember to stay committed to your profession, continually update your skills and knowledge, and support one another in your practice.
Once again, congratulations to the new inductees, and best wishes for a successful and fulfilling career in nursing and midwifery.
