PROFILE OF PASTOR FONIS POKU

Pastor Fonis is a Ghanaian-born gospel minstrel currently residing in the United States. She was born in Kotobabi, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, as the third of five children. Her early life in Ghana presented many challenges, including periods of lack, but it was also where her journey with Christ began. At the tender age of six, she was introduced to Christianity through a club and the supportive environment of believers around her. Despite her young age, she accepted Christ, knowing deep within that Jesus loved her, even though she did not fully understand Christianity at the time. Her upbringing was marked by good manners and a cultured lifestyle.

Pastor Fonis’s educational journey led her to Aggrey Memorial School and then to the University of Ghana, where she earned a degree in Business Administration. During her time in secondary school, she joined the Scripture Union (SU) and quickly became an active member. By Form 4, she had risen to the position of music director, a role that would set the stage for her lifelong ministry in music. Additionally, she has a Master’s In Business Administration from  Morgan State University and Masters In Divinity from Winning Grace Bible Institute, Baltimore Maryland.

Music has always been central to Pastor Fonis’s ministry. She began singing at the age of nine, and throughout her youth, she was inspired by renowned gospel artists such as Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Tagoe Sisters, and Stella Dugan. Her music journey has been both progressive and educative, allowing her to minister effectively in her local community. Initially, Pastor Fonis enjoyed ministering locally and didn’t feel the need to promote herself beyond that. However, she later felt a divine calling to expand her reach and become a blessing to a broader audience.

After migrating to the United States, Pastor Fonis met her husband, and together they have built a loving family with four children. In 2004, she co-founded Word of Life Chapel International with her husband, where she currently serves as an associate pastor. Alongside her pastoral duties, she also works full-time as a Human Resource Officer.

The inspiration for one of Pastor Fonis’s significant songs, “YAHWEH,” came to her on a Sunday morning during prayer. The song unfolded gradually, piece by piece, as she continued to seek divine guidance. Her passion for music and ministry continues to be a driving force in her life, and her work has touched the hearts of many, both locally and internationally.
