Profile of RNMA Press and Info Secretary, Hon. Gariba

Hon. Gariba Mustapha Abdul Rasheed is the current Press and Information Secretary for Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA). He comes from Bimbagu in the North East Region of Ghana and a committed Muslim. He completed his basic education at Methodist Junior High School in Bawku in the Upper East Region and continued at Tamale Islamic Science Senior High School in Tamale which is in the Northern Region of Ghana.

He was enrolled into Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Bawku in the year 2019 and completed in 2022. While in the nursing training institution, he was the Student Representative Council (SRC)/ Local Ghana Nurses and Midwives Association (GNMTA) General Secretary and also the Ghana Muslim Student Association (GMSA) General Secretary from 2021 – 2022.

Below are some of his achievements when he was the General Secretary in the nursing training institution;

ACADEMICS

With the support of management we were able to maintain effective Wi-Fi connectivity and it accessibility to the entire student body to enhance teaching and learning.

We were able to request for 24/7 security protection for the student on campus during the Bawku crisis.

In the midst of the Bawku crisis, we were able to petition board chair and management of the college to secure safe place for first years at Pusu, Namongu, Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

Subsequently a follow up petition was again written asking management to secure safe place for all continuing student, which management agreed and temporary took continuing students to Bolgatanga Nursing Training College for term academic work

We were able to lobby and secure the college ICT lab for student to use during preps hours.

The school library which was in abeyance was brought to full functioning during our tenure of office.

During our tenure of office, we collaborated with the security personnel station at the college for weekends aerobics

SRC in partnership with GMSA and chaplaincy organized inter faith support activity.

HEALTH

Health services were rendered to students on campus and at the Presbyterian Hospital.

Visits were made on weekly basis and anytime there was the need to check on our students who were on campus.

During our welcoming of freshers, the students were orientated and educated on the need to vaccinate against covid-19 and to ensure effective functioning of their NHIS cards.

Introduction of the school clinic was done during our tenure of office as SRC with the support of management.

Blood donation exercise were done on countless basis to save the lives of our students/patience who needed blood at the Presbyterian hospital.

Visits were made to some students in their homes due to emergency cases to ascertain their health status and to give them the little support we could with the support of management.

DINING

We were able to liaise with management to supervise the kitchen to ensure that our meals are prepared in a hygienic condition.

Some food components were modified to suit the interest of the students.

We were able to organize a party for our students (freshers welcome party).

ENVIRONMENT

We were able to liaise with management to provide flowers to beautify our environment.

During our tenure of office, we were able to liaise with management to secure adequate streets light to enhance lighting system on campus.

HOSTELS

We were able to liaise with management to provide some beds to the rooms that were not having beds.

COMMUNICATION AND PUBLICATION

We were able to organize several general assembly meetings to seek and address concerns of students.

Information concerning students interest and welfare were published on regular basis to our dear students.

Common WhatsApp page was created to serve as a platform for students on campus to enhance interactions and socialization.

We met with board members of the college on several occasions to discuss the welfare and security measures to safe guide students in the midst of the chieftaincy crisis in Bawku

SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

We were able to organize friendly matches, freshers games, interdepartmental to enhance cordiality and fitness.

The SRC was able to purchase sporting items such as footballs, basketball and others for the school team.

We were able to maintain the entertainment gadgets to its full functioning.

He has leadership qualities such as his enthusiasm, self-motivation, reliable, responsible and hardworking, a mature team worker and adaptable to all challenging situations.

He is friendly, helpful and polite nature a good sense of humor, tactful and able to listen effectively when solving problem.

As the Press and Information Secretary, he is responsible for communicating the association activity, policies and announcements to the public and media outlets. The officer (PIS), shall be the editor in chief of RNMA magazine. The PIS shall publish the plight of members in newsletters shall support the pro in any duties and function. Shall be administrator of all social media handles of the association.
