Rotational Nurses and Midwives Demonstrate against 9 months unpaid service allowance.

Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA) has released a communique informing the general public about to their intention to demonstrate. This demonstration is set to happen on the 16th of April 2024 (Tuesday). They have planned to organize this demonstration in the capital of the country, Accra.

This is following the numerous cries to the government and its respective authorities who are responsible for releasing their financial clearance for them to start processing their rotational allowance after 9 months of service in their various hospitals and the nation at large.

Rotational Nurses and Midwives are nurses who have completed their 3-year diploma courses in public nurses and midwifery training institutions across the country. These group of people are embarking on their national service and are expected to receive monthly allowance till their 1 year is over then they wait to be posted permanently.

For the past 9 months, these interns haven’t received any penny from the government as allowance and have written letters to the ministries to remind them to release their financial clearance for them to be paid but all the letters written haven’t been responded to, so they engaged the media to still push harder for the same course.

They also added that the system against rotational nurses and midwives receiving their allowance at the end of their service. “Last year, one member committed suicide because he owes a lot of people and hasn’t been paid to be able to clear his debt. We don’t want same to happen in our time or the times ahead of us” they explained.

“The lives of rotational nurses and midwives’ matter and it’s high time they are treated well to reduce the rate of travelling abroad for greener pastures”, they added.

They also concluded that, this fight is not for them alone but for the generation yet to start their service in the years ahead. We want that treatment from the government towards our profession to stop because we cannot continue to put our lives on the line to save the good people of Ghana and go home to sleep with empty stomach, walk distances to work, go to work tired and hungry and still expect to work as effective as if nothing is going on.

Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association are yet to make known to the general public, the time and places they would be visiting to express their grievances.

On the same day, Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association (GUNMA) are also embarking on a demonstration in the capital city of Ghana due to the fact that they have been jobless for some time now. They also need to be cleared and posted to facilities, but the government has failed to do so.

Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association (GUNMA) are a group of nurses who have completed their one-year mandatory service and are in the house waiting to be posted permanently to various hospitals across the country.

The demonstration for Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives will start at exactly 8:00am and they will visit the secretariats of Ministry of Health, Parliament House and Ministry of Finance.

This shows how cruel the government and the respective authorities are towards nurses and midwives in the country.
